Straight Punch – Lead & Rear
(Jab & Cross)
1. Description
The straight punch is one of the most fundamental and effective striking techniques in Panantukan. It is used to control distance, initiate attacks, or stop an opponent – fast, direct, and precise.
2. Key Points
Elbow stays behind the fist – no swinging
Punch travels straight forward – shortest line to the target
Shoulder rotates slightly for added reach and power
The other hand stays in guard position at the forehead or cheek
After the punch, immediately return to the starting guard position
3. Common Mistakes
Winding up the punch with the fist or shoulder
Punching too low or off-line
Dropping the guard during the punch
Weak stance with no connection to the ground
4. Training Tip
Practice in front of a mirror to control your punch line and guard. Do 10–20 repetitions per side – slow first, then fast, then with light footwork.
5. Application in Flow
Use the lead punch (jab) as the first contact to set range or interrupt the opponent. The rear punch (cross) often follows as a strong counter or finisher. Combine both with elbow strikes, slaps, or push kicks to transition into close range.
