In the SAMI-X system, various lengths of sticks are used. Here are typical lengths and their uses:
Stick Length in the SAMI-X System:
Short sticks: 60 cm
Medium stick: 90-100 cm
Long stick: Chest bone
Short sticks are easier to transport and are often used for quick and close combat-intensive techniques. Their shortness allows the fighter to strike quickly and defend themselves. Short sticks are well-suited for combat in confined spaces or for rapid defensive maneuvers.
Medium-length sticks: These can range from 90 to 110 centimeters long. They offer a good balance between reach and maneuverability. Medium-length sticks can be used for various combat techniques, both offensive and defensive. They allow the fighter to maintain a certain distance from their opponents while remaining flexible.
Long sticks: They offer the greatest reach and are suitable for long-range attacks. Long sticks allow the fighter to keep their opponent at a distance while executing offensive attacks. They are particularly effective against multiple opponents or in open combat situations.
For us, it is important to train with various stick lengths to develop a wide range of skills and adapt to different combat situations. Training with short sticks can improve fighters' speed and their ability to defend in close combat. Medium-length sticks help develop the balance between offense and defense, while training with long sticks strengthens the ability to control range and fight from a distance.
Additionally, training with different stick lengths allows fighters to adapt to different types of opponents and adjust their combat strategies accordingly. It also promotes the development of agility, timing, and responsiveness, as each stick length requires different techniques and movements.
