Your path to the diploma

Four steps, one level

You take this path once per level, at your own pace.

  1. Learn the level

In the online course you work through your level lesson by lesson. Live trainings help, but they are not required.
  2. Submit assignments

You film yourself doing the required techniques and upload the videos. A trainer reviews every submission and gives you feedback.
  3. Exam on video

In a live session a trainer examines you via webcam, together with others. You don't see the others, only the trainer. Depending on the system, you need a partner.
  4. SAMI diploma

Once you have passed the exam, the SAMI team records your level and diploma. Then you continue with the next level.

Assignments and feedback

How the review works

Lessons in the course come with assignments: you show the technique on video, and a SAMI trainer gives you feedback. Once all assignments are approved and all lessons watched, you register for the live exam; you upload your exam videos by the exam date.

  1. 01

    Film and upload

You film yourself doing the technique from the lesson and upload the video right at the assignment, in the browser or in the app.

  2. 02

    A trainer watches it

The course trainers are notified and watch your video.

  3. 03

    Get feedback

As soon as it has been reviewed, you get an email. The feedback is written, sometimes also as a voice message.

  4. 04

    Improve or move on

Approved: the assignment is done. Otherwise you practice again and upload a new video, with no waiting time and no extra cost.

What is checked

How you perform the technique from the lesson: whether you show it correctly and consistently, not just whether you know it. There are no points, only approved or needs revision.

ExamplePanantukan - Level 1: one assignment from start to finish
  1. You watch the lesson “Straight Punch (Jab/Cross)” (6 min video).
  2. You film yourself for the assignment “Straight Punch (Jab/Cross)” and upload the video.
  3. A SAMI trainer watches your video and reviews it.
  4. You get the status (Approved or Needs revision), the written feedback, a voice message if one was recorded, and who reviewed it.
  5. By the exam date you upload the 8 exam videos of this level, such as “High guard”, 5 of them with a partner.

Assignment, lesson and exam videos come from the course. We don't show feedback given to participants.

The three states of an assignment

  • Pending review

Your video is in and waiting for the trainer. You can upload another video only after the review.

  • Approved

The assignment is passed and checked off.

  • Needs revision

Read or listen to the feedback, practice again and submit a new video. Every attempt stays visible with its feedback.

Questions

About the exam

More questions? Go to the help center

Do I need a training partner?

It depends on the system. For self-defense, such as Krav Maga, you need a partner in the live exam. Pure technique demonstrations can be done alone. The course tells you what applies.

Is there a deadline?

Yes: from the course purchase or from paying the exam fee, you have twelve months to submit assignments and the exam. The lessons of a purchased course stay yours with no time limit.

What happens if an assignment is not approved?

It is marked “Needs revision”. You read or listen to the feedback, practice again and upload a new video, with no waiting time and no extra cost, as long as your deadline is open.

Who reviews my videos?

A SAMI trainer watches every submission and gives you written or audio feedback. Once all assignments are approved and all lessons watched, you register for the live exam; the exam videos must be in by the exam date.

Can I practice between assignments?

Yes, with a membership: in the app you film yourself doing any technique you can open and get AI feedback – a score, five criteria and three tips, up to three attempts per technique. That is for practice only: your assignments and the exam are always assessed by a SAMI instructor.

What does the exam cost as an instructor?

The exam on the path to instructor costs €349 per level. With a purchased online course, the exam is included.
